Create a treasured archive for your dressmaking projects

Do you come to re-make a dressmaking project  and can’t quite remember what changes or adaptations you made the last time?

Do you find it hard to remember what type of fabric works best for different garments?

Do you get inspired to sew a new project when scrolling through social media, only to later forget what that great idea is?

Do you find it satisfying to get a lovely new note book that you can write your name in and log all your ideas and plans?

Have you ever been ready to remake a favourite garment but couldn’t quite recall what adjustments worked so well the last time? Or maybe you stumbled upon the perfect fabric ages ago but can’t remember which pattern you planned to pair it with? Being able to plan, track and log your sewing projects in a fun way is precisely why we created the Patterntrace ‘My Sewing Workbook’: to help you capture every detail and keep those fabulous ideas from fading away.

This  little book will become a treasured archive of your sewing projects over time. We pour so much love into each garment—choosing the perfect fabric, making fitting tweaks, adding personal touches—but even though you’ll think you can remember them, often  those valuable details can slip away once you start on the next project.  Having them all in one place means you can flip back later, remember exactly how you tackled a tricky neck binding, or which interfacing made your collar sit just right. It’s a nostalgic walk through your sewing journey that you can feel really proud of and a huge time-saver for your future projects!

Find out just how useful this lovely note book will be in my video below and read on for tips and inspiration!

Made in the UK, Designed for Dressmakers

This spiral bound book is produced in the UK from recycled paper, so it feels lovely with a simple neat aesthetic. It’s perfectly sized to tuck onto your sewing shelf or into a bag if you want to take it to a workshop or sewing class. Inside, you’ll find different sections carefully laid out, including a section for lists and planning, space for 24 individual projects, and a references section at the back.

We’ve popped in handy info like types of machine needles, unit conversions, and extra space for you to note down favourite shops or go-to techniques. You might find yourself jotting down a tip you learned online, and next time you run into a similar issue, you’ve got the solution right there at your fingertips!

Plan, Record and Reflect

Sometimes project planning can start with a pattern, other times you might discover a beautiful fabric first and then hunt for the perfect pattern. Whichever way you sew, the planning and lists section is a total gem. You can create a quick queue of upcoming makes, note down helpful advice you’ve seen, or pair specific patterns with fabrics you already own to make the best use of your fabric stash.

When you kick off a project, the project record pages let you track every detail: pattern name, size, fabric type, adjustments, sewing techniques, you name it. There’s also space for a little fabric swatch—wonderful if you love the tactile side of sewing—or a photo of the final garment. By the time you’ve filled out a few pages, you’ve created a mini story of each make, including what you learned, what worked, and what you might do differently next time.

Reflecting on Your Sewing Wins (and Woes!)

Learning from mistakes and reflecting back is key to building your sewing skills and confidence. Maybe you realised halfway through a project that you needed to adjust your seam allowances, or you discovered a clever finishing technique that made all the difference. Jotting these down in the workbook ensures you won’t forget them the next time you reach for that pattern. It’s so much easier than relying on memory alone (especially when you’re juggling multiple projects!).

Ready to Build Your Sewing Archive?

If you’re ready to give your sewing memories and insights a proper home, the Patterntrace ‘My Sewing Workbook’ is waiting to help you do just that.

Happy sewing, and may your garments always reflect your unique style and skill!
